You don't get to choose your family but...

sometimes your family chooses you!

Turns out that Mikael has a half-cousin that no one in the family has known about for reasons stemming back many many years.

This has all the makings of a drama of sorts, but it's turned out really quite lovely. Mikael's new found cousin invited us and some other new found family members to a charming spot north of Copenhagen yesterday. We got to know each other better in lush surroundings, aside Denmark's second largest lake. Coincidentally, we've been living in very close proximity for a number of years, so now that we're familiar, I have no doubt we'll be spotting each other on the street from time to time.

A few choice photos from the extended family outing.

You could say that there are lots of people we choose to be with, an elective family of friends, but it's nice to see the real family grow. Mikael and I are both only children, so it means a lot that we gift the boys with people who they might know for the rest of their lives, come what may.
