So simple Anna - with a week's warning, invite everyone you haven't seen for ages and miss seeing. Invite them for Friday, right after work and daycare pickup, tell them to bring a bottle of wine and a cheese or sausage. Don't clean up. Just make bread, lots of bread. Most will leave by 8-9pm with their kids, the rest will start playing any instruments you have lying around, et voilà!
You know how it is with kids, you want to see people, but it just doesn't happen. These evenings are very talked about in our circles. Oh, yes, we're highly esteemed, child friendly party makers in our parts :)

love that there's a squeezebox on the table. the stench of stale beer will forever remind me of denmark.
We drank mostly wine though, completely different "bouquet" in the apartment when I woke up this morning, also we ate loads of stinky cheese :)
